Napster is our #1 choice for many reasons, but primarily because they have more songs than anyone else, they allow unlimited downloads instead of this pay per song garbage, and they let you try it for free! Napster was the original awesome p2p music downloading service that we all used to use and love, but unfortunately they had to go away for legal reasons. It took a few years but now they are back with a 100% legal version on Napster that we completely love!
This service works great, and the downloads are ultra fast. The built in CD burning feature is the absolute simplest and easiest we've used. We recommend Napster to anyone who asks because they have the deepest selection of music of any service we reviewed. The price is very fair, you get to try is 100% free, if you love the service, you can stay on as a membber for $14.95 a month and download unlimited songs. It's worth a shot, if you don't like it you got 7 days of downloading for free!
A small con of Napster is that you cannot directly have simple drag and drop access to iPods (because Apple only wants you to use iTunes). For other MP3 players (non-iPod) this is not an issue at all. But you can always export the songs as mp3s and put them on your ipod, or burn them onto a CD and then drag them onto your iPod so this really isn't a big deal.
